The Telegraph Luxury: Caroline Issa - Alba Amicorum

The Telegraph Luxury: Caroline Issa

As the, oh so familiar, chilly and rainy British winter descends, it's well and truly time to wrap up and hibernate. Of course generally, and especially in the fashion industry, hibernating over winter is not really an option – even that John Lewis bear is being forced out of his slumber this year.

But although a season spent in bed seems pretty desirable right now, there’s much to be said about wrapping up and facing the outdoors.

Scarves are of course essential for winter, but chosen well, they can offer so much more than the practicality of warmth and comfort. They can be art. Darshana Shilpi Rouget, an art director who cut her teeth at Conde Nast magazines and Cartier among others, recently founded Alba Amicorum, which produces collections of limited edition scarves as a way to collaborate with artists on a canvas that happens to be silk and modal. She's commissioned a scriptwriter and photographer, as well as taking archive paintings from her father, the artist Babuji Shilpi. Each scarf, made in Italy, gets a limited run of 100 and is sold through private appointments only.
