Chimeddorj’s work reflects and explores the landscapes and culture of Mongolia. Raised within a traditional culture of nomadic horsemen, he is most known for his paintings of horses; depicting the body language of horses through ink and oil paint. Collected internationally, some consider Chimeddorj the world’s leading contemporary painter of horses.

The Alba Amicorum scarf collection holds two of Chimeddorj’s paintings, Dursamj (A Memory) and Moriny Huch (Horse Power).

“There is an immediacy and movement in Chimmeddorj’s paintings, that immediately lends itself to the medium of the scarf. I was drawn to the abstract nature of his work and gestural quality of the brush strokes. I felt that applying the work to cashmere would extend this dynamism with real impact. Cashmere was the natural choice, not only because Mongolia being renowned for its cashmere, but because Chimmeddorj also paints on handmade paper and the cashmere of the scarf beautifully captures and translates the tactile quality of the original painting and medium; down to the detail of the creases and individual brush strokes, giving a further warmth and life to the artwork.” Darshana Shilpi Rouget, Alba Amicorum
