Originally painted using gouache in 1943, Shilpi’s artwork was inspired by Indian miniature paintings and depicts the progression of Indian society prior to independence. The horizontal presentation of the narrative draws on Jain and Buddhist script, also reminiscent of modern comic strips, and concludes with a vision of India at peace. Printed on pure silk, this scarf has been bought by collectors to be both worn and framed.
