"Babuji Rajendra Shilpi's (1927–2016) painting, 'Indian Carousel,' aptly captures Babuji's zest for Indian forms. Originally painted using gouache in 1943… Printed on fine silk, this scarf can be both worn and framed."
— Shaikh Ayaz, Architectural Digest India
For London Craft Week 2021, Architectural Digest India sent Shaikh Ayaz to write on the British atelier translating fine art into wearable textile objects. The feature centres on the moment a painting becomes a piece of cloth — and on the Indian artistic heritage that runs through Alba Amicorum's collections.
Ayaz pays particular attention to Indian Carousel, a 1943 gouache by the late Babuji Rajendra Shilpi (1927–2016), Darshana's father — a painting that has since become one of the brand's most quietly resonant editions. The piece reads as both a craft profile and a meditation on inheritance: how an artist's life work can find new audiences when it is taken off the wall and onto the body.
